Molly is a fork of Signal, one of the most secure instant messaging apps available for Android, which brings back a very specific feature that older versions of the app had (the ability to use a passphrase to secure your message archive) and adds some additional security options along the way.

Compatible with Signal itself

You need a user account in order to use Molly, which you can get by entering your phone number. Once you have verified the number via an OTP, you can customize your user profile. The only mandatory component is a username, but you can provide more information if you like, such as a last name, biography, or avatar. And the best part? You can chat with any user who uses the standard Signal client. In fact, if you already have a Signal account, you can use the same one.

Customize the app to your liking

Molly features a whole host of different customization options. As is typical of apps like this one, you can choose between various different visual themes, including a Dark Mode. You can also change the chat colors, the font size, and even the navigation bar. One of the program's most interesting features allows you to change the app icon. This opens up the possibility of using deceptive icons, where the app looks like a note-taking or music app.

• What I like least about Molly is that I don't have many friends who use Signal, so this app isn't much use to me.
